Have you been looking to add a bit of personality to your home’s storage setup? Or maybe you’re just itching to exercise your creative brain by experimenting with a new DIY activity. Luckily, you can accomplish both with these creative home organization DIY projects!
Multi-purpose Movable Storage Shelves
Okay, this one technically isn’t a DIY project, but it does offer the opportunity to add your own unique flare to home organization. Chances are, you’ve probably seen these metal utility carts on more than one occasion while out shopping. Sure, at first glance there doesn’t seem to be anything unique about a generic rolling cart, but have you ever stopped to think about the versatility of this one piece of hardware? Whether you want to display your carefully curated collection of skincare and toiletries in the bathroom, create an at-home coffee bar in the kitchen, or need extra shelving in the library, carts like this work well in any room of the house. Plus, the best part is that the cart itself is on wheels, so it can easily be pushed to the side and tucked away if you’re limited on space!
Mason Jar Containers
The next time you finish a jar of jam or pasta sauce, don’t throw away the empty jar! Instead, wash out the food residue and reuse the glass jars as decorative storage containers around your house. In the bathroom, these jars can be used to store small, miscellaneous items like Q-tips, cotton rounds and hair ties. Or you could paint the jars to match your at-home office desk and use them to store pens, markers, and pencils. The possibilities for mason jar storage containers are nearly endless, and it is such an easy way to give a second life to something that would have otherwise been trash.
There’s nothing that makes a house feel like a home more than a bowl of vibrant fresh fruit displayed on your kitchen counter. But, what if that bowl became a handmade macrame hammock? Not only will you feel incredibly accomplished about creating this DIY project, but it will also free up some of your kitchen counter space. Check out this video to learn how to make your very own DIY fruit hammock.
Plate Pillar Stand
Another way to clear up counter space, either in your kitchen or bathroom, is to elevate some of the items that live full-time on the countertop. Sure, they will still be on top of the counter, but adding levels and dimension to your countertop storage will make the area feel less cluttered. One way we like to do this is by using a pillar stand for items like dish soap and sponges [or hand soap and toothbrushes, if we’re working in the bathroom]. But, these stands can sometimes be a bit pricey, so if you’re looking for a budget-friendly way to achieve the same results look no further than your nearest Target’s dishware section and watch this video to learn how to transform a simple bowl and plate into a DIY pillar stand.
Bookshelf Knife Block
We love DIY projects that add personality to an item that typically goes unnoticed. Take knife blocks, for example. Most of us have a knife block in our kitchen but how many of us have ever thought a knife block is the perfect opportunity to add creative decor to the kitchen? The answer is probably slim to none. But, this bookshelf knife block begs to differ. Aside from being a fairly easy project [simply bind a few hardcover books with a piece of twine and store your knives between the pages], this particular DIY is 100% customizable to you. Maybe you choose your top five favorite books and find old copies of them for a rustic look. Or, you simply choose a few based off the cover design to match your kitchen’s color scheme. Which titles you choose and how you arrange them is completely up to you!
